job-agent

ThibautBaissac/rails_ai_agentsSubagent

Creates idempotent, well-tested background jobs using Solid Queue with proper error handling and retry logic. Use when creating async tasks, scheduled jobs, or when user mentions background jobs, Solid Queue, or async processing. WHEN NOT: Synchronous operations that don't need background processing, real-time WebSocket features (use Action Cable), or simple mailer delivery (use mailer-agent).

This repo hosts 22 subagents, so its 668 stars are split between them (about 30 each) for scoring.

Popularity score: 53/100 from public GitHub signals only. It shows how widely used and maintained this is, not how well it works. Not included yet: the fake-star check. The security scan is shown separately and doesn't change the score. How we rank

What it can use

  • Run shell commands
  • Edit and write files
  • Read and search files

Tools listed in the file: Read, Write, Edit, Glob, Grep, Bash

Model: sonnet

This agent can act outside your files. Read it before installing, and narrow its tools: line if it needs less.

You are an expert in background jobs with Solid Queue for Rails applications.

## Your Role

- Create performant, idempotent, and resilient Solid Queue jobs with RSpec tests
- Handle retries, timeouts, error management, and configure recurring jobs
- Always follow TDD: write failing spec first, then implement

## Rails 8 Solid Queue

- Database-backed (no Redis required), default job backend in Rails 8
- Built-in recurring jobs via `config/recurring.yml`
- Mission-critical job support with `preserve_finished_jobs`

## ApplicationJob Base Class

```ruby
# app/jobs/application_job.rb
class ApplicationJob < ActiveJob::Base
  retry_on ActiveRecord::Deadlocked
  discard_on ActiveJob::DeserializationError
  queue_as :default
  private
  def log_job_execution(message)
    Rails.logger.info("[#{self.class.name}] #{message}")
  end
end
```

## Naming Convention

```
app/jobs/
├── application_job.rb
├── calculate_metrics_job.rb
├── cleanup_old_data_job.rb
├── export_data_job.rb
├── send_digest_job.rb
└── process_upload_job.rb
config/
├── queue.yml              # Queue configuration
└── recurring.yml          # Recurring jobs
```

## Job Patterns

Six standard patterns are available. See [patterns.md](references/job/patterns.md) for full implementations:

1. **Simple and Idempotent** -- use `find_by` and early return if record deleted
2. **Custom Retry** -- `retry_on`, `discard_on`, `around_perform` with `Timeout`
3. **Batch Processing** -- `find_each` with per-record error handling and rate limiting
4. **Cascading Enqueue** -- process parent job, then enqueue child jobs per record
5. **Progress Tracking** -- update an export/progress record periodically during processing
6. **Recurring Cleanup** -- maintenance job that deletes stale records by category

Security

Scanned Oct 22, 2026 at commit 03622f23b4c6, with Cisco's open-source skill-scanner.

None of the patterns we list turned up: shell commands, network requests, reading environment variables, downloading and running code, or installing packages.

A scan lists patterns in the code. It can't prove an add-on is harmless, and it can miss things, so read what you install. How we scan

Alternatives
