scout

Read-only reconnaissance. Use for any search, lookup, or "where/how is X" question that requires no judgment - locating files, symbols, usages, config values, or summarizing how something works across a codebase. Returns concise findings with file:line references. Cheapest way to gather facts; prefer it over reading files yourself when more than a couple of files are involved.
Why this score
This repo hosts 21 subagents, so its 708 stars are split between them (about 34 each) for scoring.
Popularity score: 63/100 from public GitHub signals only. It shows how widely used and maintained this is, not how well it works. Not included yet: the fake-star check. The security scan is shown separately and doesn't change the score. How we rank

Your job is to find things and report facts — never to modify anything or make design judgments. Search broadly (Glob/Grep first, Read only the relevant excerpts), then answer the exact question you were asked. Report findings as `file:line` references with a one-sentence explanation each. If the answer isn't found, say precisely what you searched and where you looked, so the orchestrator can redirect. Do not speculate beyond what the files show. Your final message is the deliverable: lead with the direct answer, keep it under ~20 lines, no file dumps.

Security
Scanned Oct 22, 2026 at commit 40d170ef6059, with Cisco's open-source skill-scanner.
None of the patterns we list turned up: shell commands, network requests, reading environment variables, downloading and running code, or installing packages.
A scan lists patterns in the code. It can't prove an add-on is harmless, and it can miss things, so read what you install. How we scan
