## Context Loading (Optional)

Load context based on task needs. Skip what isn't relevant.

| Context Source | When to Load | Skip If |
|----------------|--------------|---------|
| `.claude/CLAUDE.md` | Always recommended | Task is trivial |
| `.claude/kb/supabase/` | Any Supabase task | Domain not applicable |
| Existing migration files | Modifying schema | Greenfield project |
| `supabase/config.toml` | Changing project config | No local Supabase |
| Edge Function source | Modifying functions | New function |
| RLS policies | Security changes | No existing policies |
| **Live: `list_projects`** | Any instance operation | Offline/design only |
| **Live: `list_tables`** | Before schema changes | Greenfield project |
| **Live: `list_extensions`** | Before CREATE EXTENSION | Extension already confirmed |

### Context Decision Tree

```text
What Supabase task?
├─ Database schema → Load KB + list_tables (live) + check migrations
├─ pgvector/RAG → Load KB vector patterns + list_extensions (live)
├─ RLS/Auth → Load KB security + list_tables (check rls_enabled) (CRITICAL)
├─ Edge Functions → Load KB functions + list_edge_functions (live)
├─ Realtime → Load KB realtime + channel config
├─ Migrations → Load KB migrations + list_migrations (live) + local files
└─ Instance mgmt → list_projects (live) + get_project (live)
```

## Capabilities

### Capability 1: pgvector & Embeddings Management

**When:** Setting up vector tables, HNSW/IVFFlat indexes, similarity search functions, or embedding storage

**Process:**
1. Load KB: `.claude/kb/supabase/concepts/pgvector-fundamentals.md`
2. Enable pgvector extension
3. Create embedding table with proper dimensions (match model output)
4. Configure HNSW or IVFFlat index based on dataset size and query pattern
5. Create match function for similarity search
6. Validate index with MCP if complex patterns

**Output format:**
```sql
-- Enable pgvector
CREATE EXTENSION IF NOT EXISTS vector;
-- Embeddings table
CREATE TABLE public.documents (
  id UUID PRIMARY KEY DEFAULT gen_random_uuid(),
  content TEXT NOT NULL,
  metadata JSONB DEFAULT '{}',
  embedding vector(1536),  -- OpenAI text-embedding-3-small
  created_at TIMESTAMPTZ DEFAULT now()
);
-- HNSW index (default choice, auto-optimizes as data is added)
CREATE INDEX ON public.documents
  USING hnsw (embedding vector_cosine_ops)
  WITH (m = 16, ef_construction = 64);
-- Match function for similarity search
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION match_documents(
  query_embedding vector(1536),
  match_threshold float DEFAULT 0.78,
  match_count int DEFAULT 5
)
RETURNS TABLE (id UUID, content TEXT, metadata JSONB, similarity float)
LANGUAGE plpgsql AS $$
BEGIN
  RETURN QUERY
  SELECT d.id, d.content, d.metadata,
         1 - (d.embedding <=> query_embedding) as similarity
  FROM public.documents d
  WHERE 1 - (d.embedding <=> query_embedding) > match_threshold
  ORDER BY d.embedding <=> query_embedding
  LIMIT match_count;
END;
$$;
```

### Capability 2: Row-Level Security (RLS)

**When:** Implementing data access control, multi-tenant isolation, user-scoped access, or role-based policies

**Process:**
1. Load KB: `.claude/kb/supabase/concepts/rls-policies.md`
2. Enable RLS on target table
3. Design policies using auth.uid(), auth.jwt(), current_setting()
4. Cover all operations: SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE
5. Test with different user contexts
6. Validate no data leakage paths

**Output format:**
```sql
-- Enable RLS
ALTER TABLE public.conversations ENABLE ROW LEVEL SECURITY;
-- Users can read their own conversations
CREATE POLICY "Users read own conversations" ON public.conversations
  FOR SELECT USING (auth.uid() = user_id);
-- Users can insert their own conversations
CREATE POLICY "Users insert own conversations" ON public.conversations
  FOR INSERT WITH CHECK (auth.uid() = user_id);
-- Users can update their own conversations
CREATE POLICY "Users update own conversations" ON public.conversations
  FOR UPDATE USING (auth.uid() = user_id)
  WITH CHECK (auth.uid() = user_id);
-- Users can delete their own conversations
CREATE POLICY "Users delete own conversations" ON public.conversations
  FOR DELETE USING (auth.uid() = user_id);
```

### Capability 3: Edge Functions (Deno)

**When:** Creating Deno-based Edge Functions for API middleware, webhook handlers, or custom business logic

**Process:**
1. Load KB: `.claude/kb/supabase/concepts/edge-functions.md`
2. Set up function with CORS headers (import from SDK v2.95.0+)
3. Handle OPTIONS preflight request first
4. Implement authentication (JWT verification)
5. Add error handling and structured responses
6. Use environment variables for all secrets

**Output format:**
```typescript
import { corsHeaders } from '@supabase/supabase-js/cors'
import { createClient } from 'https://esm.sh/@supabase/supabase-js@2'
Deno.serve(async (req) => {
  if (req.method === 'OPTIONS') {
    return new Response('ok', { headers: corsHeaders })
  }
  try {
    const supabase = createClient(
      Deno.env.get('SUPABASE_URL')!,
      Deno.env.get('SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY')!
    )
    const { data } = await req.json()
    // Business logic here
    return new Response(JSON.stringify({ success: true }), {
      headers: { ...corsHeaders, 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
      status: 200,
    })
  } catch (error) {
    return new Response(JSON.stringify({ error: error.message }), {
      headers: { ...corsHeaders, 'Content-Type': 'application/json' },
      status: 400,
    })
  }
})
```

### Capability 4: Auth & User Management

**When:** Configuring Supabase Auth with providers (email, OAuth), session management, JWT handling, custom claims, or role assignment

**Process:**
1. Load KB: `.claude/kb/supabase/concepts/rls-policies.md` (auth context)
2. Configure auth providers (email, OAuth, phone)
3. Set up custom claims via Auth Hooks (Postgres function)
4. Implement sign-up/sign-in flows
5. Configure JWT claims for RLS policy consumption

**Custom Claims Hook:**
```sql
CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION public.custom_access_token_hook(event JSONB)
RETURNS JSONB LANGUAGE plpgsql AS $$
DECLARE
  claims JSONB;
  user_role TEXT;
BEGIN
  SELECT role INTO user_role FROM public.user_roles
    WHERE user_id = (event->>'user_id')::UUID;
  claims := event->'claims';
  claims := jsonb_set(claims, '{user_role}', to_jsonb(user_role));
  event := jsonb_set(event, '{claims}', claims);
  RETURN event;
END;
$$;
```

### Capability 5: Database Design & Migrations

**When:** Schema design, migration files, type generation, foreign keys, indexes, or rollback strategies

**Process:**
1. Load KB: `.claude/kb/supabase/patterns/rag-vector-store.md` (if vector schema)
2. Check existing migrations for naming conventions
3. Design schema with proper types, constraints, and indexes
4. Generate migration SQL via `supabase migration new <name>`
5. Test with `supabase db reset`
6. Deploy with `supabase db push` or CI/CD pipeline

**Migration file naming:** `YYYYMMDDHHMMSS_description.sql`

### Capability 6: Live Instance Management (MCP)

**When:** Creating projects, executing SQL, applying migrations, deploying Edge Functions, listing tables, or managing any Supabase resource directly

**Prerequisite:** Claude.ai Supabase MCP integration (cloud-native, no `.mcp.json` entry needed)

**Available MCP Operations:**

| Category | Tool | Use Case |
|----------|------|----------|
| **Projects** | `list_projects` | Discover project IDs |
| | `get_project` | Check project status, region, DB version |
| | `create_project` | Provision new project (requires cost confirmation) |
| | `pause_project` / `restore_project` | Manage project lifecycle |
| **Database** | `execute_sql` | Run any SQL (DDL, DML, queries) directly |
| | `list_tables` | Inspect schema, columns, RLS status, row counts |
| | `list_extensions` | Check installed/available extensions (pgvector, etc.) |
| | `get_advisors` | Get optimization recommendations |
| **Migrations** | `apply_migration` | Apply version-controlled schema changes |
| | `list_migrations` | Review migration history |
| **Branches** | `create_branch` / `delete_branch` | Database branching for dev/test |
| | `merge_branch` / `rebase_branch` | Promote branch changes |
| | `reset_branch` | Reset branch to clean state |
| **Edge Functions** | `deploy_edge_function` | Deploy Deno functions directly |
| | `get_edge_function` / `list_edge_functions` | Inspect deployed functions |
| **Auth & Keys** | `get_project_url` | Get API URL for client config |
| | `get_publishable_keys` | Get anon/service_role keys |
| **Observability** | `get_logs` | View database and API logs |
| | `search_docs` | Query official Supabase documentation (GraphQL) |
| **Types** | `generate_typescript_types` | Generate TypeScript types from schema |

**Process:**
1. Always `list_projects` first to identify the target project ID
2. Use `list_tables` to understand current schema state before changes
3. For schema changes: prefer `apply_migration` over raw `execute_sql`
4. For debugging/exploration: use `execute_sql` for ad-hoc queries
5. After changes: verify with `list_tables` or `execute_sql` SELECT queries

**Critical Safety Rules:**
- NEVER execute destructive SQL (DROP TABLE, TRUNCATE) without explicit user confirmation
- ALWAYS use `apply_migration` for production schema changes (auditable, reversible)
- Use `execute_sql` for: exploration queries, enabling extensions, one-time data fixes
- Check `list_extensions` before using `execute_sql('CREATE EXTENSION ...')`

**Example — Deploy AI SDR Schema:**

```text
1. list_projects()                          → Get project ID
2. list_tables(project_id)                  → Check current state
3. list_extensions(project_id)              → Verify pgvector available
4. execute_sql("CREATE EXTENSION vector")   → Enable pgvector
5. apply_migration(project_id, name, sql)   → Apply 001_create_schema.sql
6. list_tables(project_id)                  → Verify 8 tables created
7. execute_sql("SELECT count(*) FROM ...")  → Validate schema
```

### Capability 7: Realtime Subscriptions

**When:** Setting up Postgres Changes, Broadcast, or Presence channels for live data sync

**Process:**
1. Load KB: `.claude/kb/supabase/` (realtime section)
2. Enable Realtime on target table via publication
3. Configure channel subscriptions (Postgres Changes, Broadcast, or Presence)
4. Handle connection lifecycle and reconnection
5.

Security

Scanned Oct 22, 2026 at commit 57078d7592f8, with Cisco's open-source skill-scanner.

None of the patterns we list turned up: shell commands, network requests, reading environment variables, downloading and running code, or installing packages.

A scan lists patterns in the code. It can't prove an add-on is harmless, and it can miss things, so read what you install. How we scan
